What is geez meaning?

Geez refers to the language spoken by the Geez people of Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is a member of the ancient Semitic language family and it has been written in the Ethiopic script since the 4th century. Geez was the language of the Axumite kingdom, one of the most powerful civilizations of ancient Africa. Today, it is primarily used as a liturgical language by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the Eritrean Orthodox Church.
